Steve Clark's Reply to the Dallas Morning News article on first day of early voting

The Dallas Morning News reported on the first day of early voting that, (Steve Clark)".. was arrested in 1986 on charges of assaulting his ex-wife..."  The article accurately points out that, "The charges were ultimately dismissed ... They had been married less than a year at the time of the arrest, and Clark filed for divorce in June 1988." Further, the article provided some balance to the unidentified source of the information to the Washington reporter by quoting Clark, "Those allegations are not true."

As further background the reported provided that, "They had been married less than a year........, and Clark filed for divorce in June 1988."

The following is being provided from Steve to all of his supporters and those who want to better understand the circumstances:
"Many of us have experienced a period of difficulty in their lives. This was a situation from 24 years ago when I was associating with the wrong crowd. My error in judgment was in living that life style of "work hard - play hard" and entering into that relationship.  The blessing for me, is that although all charges were false, recanted several times, and eventually dismissed, I was still able to reevaluate my life and restore my childhood Faith.  I hold no resentment toward the person that made the false allegation, but instead am grateful for the life lesson and with being blessed with my renewed faith in God.  I answered "no" on the questionnaire as the dismissal of charges was unequivocal and in the words of the decree, "It is therefore hereby ordered, adjudged, and decreed that the information/complaint in this case be dismissed..." However, technically it was an arrest and I was wrong to say, "no" without an explanation. I should have said "yes" and explained the circumstance.  I shared the information with the Dallas Morning News on February 11 in person following the interview by the Editorial Board. I apologize for this mistake and accept any decision of the voters.

I have been blessed many times over with a wonderful marriage of over 20 years and a loving wife who is full of grace. Our healthy and happy children are an everyday joy. In summary, what was an unfortunate and false allegation, turned into a blessing as I was able to turn my life to God."
